A flexible approach to production, a step-by-step advisory service, an accurate material selection process and an extensive cross-industry experience; these are the distinguishing features of all the projects that we have brought to completion here at Metallizzazione Molteni. A clever blend of aesthetics and functionality, beauty and durability, competence, and quality.
PVD sputtering is a coating process used to deposit a thin layer of metal (copper, brass, chrome, etc.) onto a substrate. During the deposition process, a molecular bond is formed between the metallic film and the substrate. The latter are hence welded together to enhance the resistance and durability of the coating.
This kind of surface treatment allows for the creation of the thinnest and most uniform coating ever, which is available in any choice of colours. This is a great way to ensure the quality of the finished product while also minimising waste. The result? A sustainable and cost-effective product.
This project consisted in the creation of some personalised wall hanging pictures. We used the sputtering method to deposit super thin aluminium and copper films onto a range of vinyl records.

For a client who wanted to embellish and give more personality to their clothing we metallized (also via sputter deposition) some pieces of fabric and nylon faux leather which were given new special effects that can convey the designer’s ideas and the style of the wearers.
→ Fashion
This project consisted in creating a finish on some wrought metal ornaments or on some 3D prints to be applied on clothing. To achieve this, we performed a classic three-step metallization cycle, which involves applying a basecoat, depositing a metallic layer, and applying a topcoat. This process enabled us to create the perfect finish that is both scratch-resistant and alcohol-resistant.

To create a chrome finish that is both aesthetically pleasing and wear-resistant, we used the technique of DC sputtering, which enabled us to personalise and enhance the visual appeal of some polycarbonate plates.
→ Electronics
We worked on a set of home furnishings printed on ABS to devise and create some new colour schemes to meet new market demands. These would need to match the colour of the various pieces of furniture, which had previously been powder coated or varnished. To fulfil this request, we used matte pastel colours – for the dove-grey and grey finishes – and textured chrome effects for other colours such as sable, charcoal grey, copper, and mint green.
