A flexible approach to production, a step-by-step advisory service, an accurate material selection process and an extensive cross-industry experience; these are the distinguishing features of all the projects that we have brought to completion here at Metallizzazione Molteni. A clever blend of aesthetics and functionality, beauty and durability, competence, and quality.
Metallization of plastic components or objects or 3D prototypes printed with ABS, Nylon and PLA involves depositing a metallic layer (usually 99% pure aluminium) in a vacuum chamber and at a vapour pressure of 10-4 Torr.
This process is used for creating a high-quality mirror effect and is subsequently refinished by adding a protective topcoat of any colour. This finish allows for a high degree of personalisation while also ensuring that the relevant standards of hardness and durability are fully met.
To fulfil our client’s request, we performed a classic three-step metallization cycle, which involves applying a basecoat, depositing an aluminium layer, and applying an anti-scratch topcoat. To avoid damaging the electrical components during the various stages of the metallization process, we used a set of appropriate frames which enabled us to fully cover the inner part of the bulbs.

To make this luxury perfume packaging truly unique and recognizable, we metallized three of the four components of the ABS box using a matt silver paint. Moreover, to make the logo design pop on the pattern background of the packaging, we made the decision, in consultation with the customer, to metallize it by applying a shiny silver paint.
→ Fragrance packaging
To create an eye-catching object that meets the exact specifications set by the client, we worked on 4 separate components, i.e. 3 elements printed with ABS and 1 made from wire. When metallizing the ABS components we performed a classic three-step metallization cycle, which involves applying a basecoat, depositing an aluminium layer, and applying a red topcoat. When treating the shape made from welded wire, instead, we performed a specific powder coating cycle.
Two different processes were used to achieve the desired realistic effect: mission accomplished!
→ Lighting
We metallized an entire custom design object made up of more than 40 components printed on ABS. This is an iconic lamp, which was already quite popular in Europe and available in three colours (silver, gold and pink).
The challenge posed by this project consisted in revamping this product by lending it a new identity and a new colour (matt copper, as opposed to the previous shiny versions). The result was an elegant finish, with a modern and minimalist look.

To make this shop window truly captivating, we metallized a range of objects and details printed with ABS or PS. To do so, we first applied a basecoat and then went on to metallize the various components to make them as bright and eye-catching as possible.

As part of this project, we focused on a component made up of two plastic shells mounted next to a chrome steel structure. To achieve a combination of functionality, resistance, and aesthetic appeal, we performed a classic three-step metallization cycle, which involves applying a basecoat, depositing an aluminium layer, and applying a robust steel-gray topcoat. To insulate and protect the internal electrical parts, we used a set of appropriate frames which enabled us to fully cover the inner part of the shells.
→ Electricals
To metallize a series of kits consisting of parts printed with PA or PP, we performed a classic three-step metallization cycle, which involves applying a basecoat, depositing an aluminium layer, and applying a robust steel-gray topcoat.
The tricky part of this project was boosting the performance of that particular component, while simultaneously protecting its grip point so as to prevent scratches and marks. The result was a perfect combination of aesthetic appeal, resistance, and functionality.

For a client who wanted to embellish and give more personality to their clothing we metallized (also via sputter deposition) some pieces of fabric and nylon faux leather which were given new special effects that can convey the designer’s ideas and the style of the wearers.
→ Fashion
To enhance the visual appeal of their beauty products and fashion accessories, we advised our client to metallize their display cabinets via the classic three-step cycle which involves applying a basecoat, depositing an aluminium layer, and applying an anti-scratch topcoat (shiny silver, shiny gold, or matt gold, depending on the client’s specifications).
→ Display cabinets for beauty products and fashion accessories
The key aim of this project was to create a gold effect on the outer part of the bottle and a silver effect on the inside to reflect the LED lights fitted at the object’s base. To achieve this, we performed a classic three-step metallization cycle, which involves applying a basecoat, depositing an aluminium layer, and applying a gold effect topcoat: durable, resistant, and absolutely brilliant!
